IEEE committees where I participate
Formed in 1963, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a professional association for electronic engineering and electrical engineering (and associated disciplines) with its corporate office in New York City. It is referred to by the letters I-E-E-E (pronounced “I-triple-E”). It is the world’s largest association of technical professionals, with more than 423,000 members in over 160 countries.
IEEE produces a lot of technical papers and recommendations for governments and private companies, most of them about “standards”. Before taking on a new standard, the IEEE Standards Board determines if it is needed and if enough participants are likely to step forward to develop it.
IEEE has a large number of standards committees. There are 42 technical Societies within IEEE. Within those societies, there are often many committees that are already active in standards development.
I am currently a member of the following IEEE committees:
- IEEE European Public Policy Committee (EPPC) on ICT, since 2023.
- IEEE P3129 Standard for Robustness Testing and Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Image Recognition Service Committee, since 2021.
- IEEE P3123 Standard for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) Terminology and Data Formats Committee, since 2021.
- IEEE European Public Policy Committee (EPPC) on Artificial Intelligence (AI), since 2021.
- IEEE European Public Policy Committee (EPPC) for Engagement on Grid Stability, since 2020.
